The Missouri Ethics Commission unanimously decided a Houston man violated state law while campaigning against an Ozarks Technical College issue in August 2011.
In the ruling, the Missouri Ethics Commission on Sept. 28 said John Impey violated state statute and fined him $100, according to a five-page ruling.
According to the decision, Impey did not place any “paid for by” disclosure on materials distributed in opposition of Proposition A, which is a violation of state law. A steering committee in support of the issue filed the complaint, and it said the flyer was filled with inaccurate information.
Additionally, Impey placed the name “Universal Widgets” in paperwork ordering delivery by the U.S. Postal Service, the Missouri Ethics Commission said. The move, the body said, allowed him to purchase the service for half of what an individual would have paid. The business does not exist.
The issue was defeated, 531-485. A simple majority was required for passage.
