A Houston man died early Monday in a house fire on Chestnut Street.
Dead is Thomas L. Rose, 51, of 306 Chestnut St.
The Houston Fire Department was called to the home shortly after 2 a.m. after police officer David Kidwell smelled smoke, said Sgt. Tim Ceplina of the Houston Police Department. Two county deputies assisted.
A state fire marshal said the blaze is not suspicious, Ceplina said. Mr. Rose’s body was found in a bedroom in the north part of the house.
An ambulance was called to the scene, and later Texas County Coroner Thomas Whittaker declared Mr. Rose dead at the home.
