Enrollment increased about 1.6 percent from the first day of classes a year ago, according to a tally in the county’s seven school districts.
Licking showed the biggest jump after 917 arrived in classrooms. That’s up 49 from the first day total in 2011.
Houston, Licking, Raymondville, Summersville and Success all showed increases. Raymondville jumped 17 to 149.
Houston was up eight. The breakdown by building: Elementary through fifth grades, 447; sixth through eighth grades, 231; and high school, 364. That totals 1,042, the largest enrollment in the county.
Other enrollment figures in the county: Cabool, 742, down 11 from the start of school last year; Plato’s head count was 601, down 23 from the start last year; Success had 92 in the classroom, up two; and Summersville had a slight increase to 413 students in the district.
Superintendents keep a watchful eye on enrollment — it affects state aid and other budgetary items.
