Two persons were arrested Friday, Jan. 5, on drug charges at Licking

The Summersville Police Department arrested two persons Sunday following a drug investigation in the eastern Texas County community.

The department conducted an investigation over the course of the last month after citizens have expressed concern about possible narcotics distribution at a residence in Summersville. The information received from the citizens along with the information received during the investigation led Summersville Police Officer Travis Howell to seek and acquire a search warrant for the residence.

On Sunday, during the service of the search warrant, more than 30 prescription pills and various drug-related paraphernalia were seized. As a result, two individuals were arrested and transported to the Texas County Jail pending formal charges. Four felony charges are being sought and two misdemeanor drug paraphernalia criminal summons were issued.

“The citizens and police need to stand together in the effort to remove illegal narcotics from our community. Without the citizens coming forward and expressing their concern to us, this investigation may not have come to this positive result, so quickly. Oftentimes, the crimes of distribution and possession of illicit drugs extend over into other crimes such as stealing and robbery. This is why I am so adamant about encouraging the citizens to get involved and also why I implemented the D.A.R.E. program in our schools. I would also like to express our appreciation to the Texas County Sheriff‘s Department for their assistance,” the department said in a press release.

Persons who would like to provide information about any illegal activity can contact the Summersville Police Department at 417-932-4212.
