Citing health reasons, Texas County Public Administrator Theresa Campbell announced Friday she will not seek re-election.

Texas County Public Administrator Theresa Campbell announced Friday that she won’t seek re-election to the post this fall.

Campbell said she recently was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and will ask that her name be removed from the November General Election ballot.

Campbell said members of the Texas County Democratic Central Committee will meet and name a replacement for her on the ballot.

“It has been a honor to serve the people of Texas County for the past 12 years,” Campbell said. “I will always appreciate the help and support that everyone across the county has extended to me, both at the ballot box and in helping me with the actual job. A special thank you to my friends and family who have been such a tremendous help.”

Campbell suggested those interested in the job contact a member of the central committee, which is slated to meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Texas County Justice Center.

The Republican nominee for the office is Connie Thompson of Cabool.
