(Editor’s note: This is another in a series of profiles submitted by candidates for the Aug. 7 Primary Election).
Hello friends and neighbors, this is Texas County Tax Assessor Debbie James. I have worked in the assessor’s office for more than 17 years. It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your assessor these past seven years, and am now in my second term. From my first day in office, I’ve worked hard for you in standing firmly against all efforts by those desiring to raise your property assessments. In our current economic times, with its decreasing county revenues, your next assessor must have the experience required to operate the office with current revenues.
In my time as your assessor, this office has been run efficiently and effectively without a single dollar of the county’s General Revenue funds, operating solely on funding allowed under current statutes. This alone is clear evidence of my continued desire to provide you with the fairest assessments and friendliest service possible, while dedicating myself to you on all your assessment issues. That’s why I need your support and vote in the Republican Primary on Aug. 7.
My qualifications include professional training in real estate property assessments,
real estate mapping, personal property assessments and office management. I am
a member of the Missouri Assessor’s Association, Missouri Mapper’s Association,
Missouri Association of Counties and a member of the Missouri Cattlemen’s
Association. I’m also a member of the Republican Party and the Missouri Federation
of Republican Women. I and my husband, Doug, are lifelong Texas County residents.
We have been married 33 years and reside in the Solo community. Our three grown sons,
wonderful daughter-in-law and three terrific grandchildren all call Texas County their home.
If re-elected as your assessor, I will continue to be a dedicated, motivated voice for you, treating all people with kindness and respect. I’m a firm believer in taking an enthusiastic interest in your concerns and in working with everyone to ensure this office works in the best manner possible. You will find I am eager and truly sincere when it comes to serving Texas County and its citizens. While it is my desire to visit with each of you personally before the Primary Election, this may not be possible.
If we are not able to meet, know this is not my desire or intent. If you have questions, comments or concerns, and would like to discuss them, please do not hesitate to call my residence at 417-967-2587 or my office at 417-967-4709 during business hours. I would greatly appreciate your support and vote in the Republican Primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
