Texas County Sheriff Carl Watson said Tuesday he will be a candidate for re-election.
Watson, who is completing his second, four-year term as sheriff, said he plans to file when the candidacy period opens in a few weeks.
“I’ll continue to be fair, honest and work hard,” said Watson, was associated with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 33 years. The last 20 years were as a criminal investigator in the agency’s Troop G.
“It’s been a privilege to serve the residents of Texas County,” said Watson.
Big changes came to the sheriff’s department in Watson’s most recent term. It assumed occupancy of a new 79-bed jail and moved into new quarters in the Texas County Justice Center. Additionally, the department has continued to improve its vehicle fleet.
Watson, a Solo Democrat, is a Texas County native and graduate of Houston High School.
