The City of Houston will begin smoke testing of sewer lines beginning Wednesday, it was announced Tuesday.

The work is being done to detect leaks and prevent groundwater from entering its sewer plant. Tests are planned throughout the city, said City Administrator Larry Sutton said.

Persons who detect smoke in their business or home should call city hall to report it. That will help the city find problems, he said.
