The Missouri Highways and Transportation Department has named leaders for the new southeast district, which includes Texas County.

Mark Shelton was named the district engineer over the 25-county region. Matt Seiler and Tom Stehn were named assistant district engineers.

Shelton has served as district engineer in the southeast district since 2005. He has worked for MoDOT for almost 26 years, serving as the assistant state construction and materials engineer before becoming the district engineer for the southeast district. Shelton has also worked in materials for the central district, St. Louis district and central office, operations engineer in Joplin and field materials director for central office. Shelton earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

“I am excited about this new direction and look forward to working with the additional counties in the southeast district, as well as the communities we serve,” said Shelton. “The experience that Matt and Tom bring to the district will help further our mission.”

Seiler joins the new southeast district as one of the assistant district engineers. Seiler began his career for MoDOT in construction in Willow Springs. From there, he served as the district traffic engineer in Springfield and was promoted to the assistant district engineer. He most recently served as the assistant district engineer in the southwest district. Seiler earned his civil engineering degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

“My focus will be to keep the transportation system in good condition despite challenging transportation funding. I will continue to serve Missourians by finding practical solutions to meet our transportation needs,” said Seiler.

Stehn also joins the southeast district as an assistant district engineer. He joined the department in 1983 holding positions including structural designer, highway design reviewer, estimating and reviewing engineer, district highway design engineer, district chief designer, district design engineer and field liaison engineer. Most recently, Stehn served as the south central district engineer for MoDOT in Willow Springs. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in civil engineering.

“Although I have held a variety of positions within MoDOT, my primary goal continues to be serving Missouri’s taxpayers,” said Stehn. “Though the department is undergoing changes, our ability to deliver services shouldn’t be significantly changed.”
