Members of the Houston City Council received updates last week on several phases of the Village Trail, a walking venue under development in the community.
A Rolla firm, Maggi Construction, has received the bid for a section situated near the Houston Memorial Airport along Airport Road. The project is funding through federal stimulus dollars.
Two other sections also are sought for bids:
Phase I – includes an area from West Highway 17, along U.S. 63 and includes sections of First Street and Grand Avenue.
Phase II – includes property from Grand Avenue to Emmett Kelly Park and a north leg that runs from Brushy Creek Trail to near the Texas County Justice Center.
Proposals will be reviewed Oct. 22, reported City Administrator Larry Sutton.
A portion of the Village Trail – in Emmett Kelly Park and along Brushy Creek – has already be completed.
In other matters, members:
-Heard that an award ceremony of federal stimulus money is 10 a.m. Oct. 14 for Houston’s wastewater treatment plant.
-Learned that the city has negotiated an agreement with Sho-Me Power Corp. of Marshfield for use of city utility poles for its fiber optics system.
-Were told that painting and repairs to a water well on Cleveland Road are completed.
-Learned that the city will meet with representatives of MoDOT concerning new city sign locations on North and South U.S. 63.
