About 540 third- and fourth-grade students from Texas County schools attended an ag expo last week at the fairgrounds in Houston. The event, which has received national attention, was sponsored by Texas County Farm Bureau.
Twenty-four stations provided information on a variety of agriculture topics – ranging from livestock to electrical safety. Straw bales were used as seating for each eight-minute presentation.
Students brought a sack lunch for the day. Hot, pulled pork, chips, beans and dessert were available for those attending.
The county chapter of Farm Bureau was one of 15 chapters in the country to receive recognition for the program in January at the American Farm Bureau’s national convention.
