Revenue from various sales taxes collected by Texas County merchants was up from the same monthly period a year ago, according to a report by the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The tally from three half-cent sales taxes was about $76,770 each. That’s an increase of about 2 percent for each one from the same period a year ago.

The total for each in the first nine months of the year is about $700,000. Each is down about $21,000 from the same three quarters last year.

One goes toward general county revenue, another is used for debt repayment on the justice center and the third is for maintenance needs.

The state reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
