New technology is in place at county library branches in Texas County that will aid residents who are visually or hearing impaired.

“ZoomText” was obtained through a grant by the county library board that allows patrons to enlarge words to allow them to read it. Library Director Audrey Barnhart said users can almost zoom in on just a single word on the 25-inch monitors. The software allows the user to see and hear what they’re doing in all applications.

Special chairs also are available for those with handicaps.

Another new addition to the library branches is computers that are designed to learn computer literacy skills, including reading, math and games in English or Spanish. Two stations are situated at Cabool, Houston, Licking and Summersville. They are designed for children ages 2 through 8. There is no charge. A grant paid for the equipment.
