It appears the City of Houston may receive addition federal stimulus funds after construction bids for a new wastewater treatment plant fell below budget.

City Administrator Larry Sutton reported Monday that the city had received verbal notification that it would receive another $500,000 for work in the city.

Ray West, city engineer, and Sutton earlier developed a list of projects for the Department of Natural Resources to consider funding with unused money remaining from construction of the new wastewater treatment plant. The lowest bid was $800,000 below projections.

Because of the low bid, the city previously said it would have to turn down a $500,000 rural sewer grant it was scheduled to receive.

The list of projects for the remaining money includes replacing lift stations and repairs to the existing plant and deteriorating sewer lines to reduce infiltration into new sewer facility.
