The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety is sponsoring free classroom training for older drivers from 8 a.m. until noon Wednesday, July 8, inside the Lybyer Technology Center on the Missouri State University campus.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation’s first and largest refresher course for drivers 50 and older. Participants will learn current rules of the road, how to operate their vehicles more safety, the effects of medications on driving and how to adjust their driving to suit common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.
Kelly Martin, Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety regional coordinator, said she hopes seniors take part in this free offer.
“This is a great opportunity for our senior drivers to hone their driving skills and make Missouri’s roadways safer,” Martin said.
Seniors who take part in the training will not only learn useful skills, but may be eligible for discounts on their auto insurance.
AARP membership is not required to take the course, and there is no final test to pass.
Martin said there is no tuition fee this year to make the course more accessible to seniors and increase the number being educated. To make your reservation, contact Kelly Martin at 888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636).
