Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin an asphalt overlay project today (Thursday) on Highway 17 in Texas and Howell counties.
The project will add asphalt overlay to more than 30 miles of Highway 17 from Highway 106 in Texas County to Highway 160 in Howell County. It is one of 91 projects awarded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
MoDOT crews also:
-Will chip seal Highways C and O in Texas, Phelps and Dent counties beginning Monday. Work is from Highway 32 near Licking and extends to Highway 72 near Rolla.
The thin overlay of chips and oil added to the roadway seals and protects the pavement. Chip-seal resurfacing on roads also extends the life of the pavement by sealing cracks, increasing skid resistance and correcting minor rutting, MoDOT said.
Crews will be working daylight work hours. Flaggers and a pilot car controlling traffic will be used through the work zone.
-Completed chip sealing Wednesday on projects at highways 17, 32 and 137.
Work on Highway 17 was from U.S. 63 to just north of Highway Z at the Dog’s Bluff bridge. Work on Highway 32 was from Highway N to Highway 17. Work on Highway 137 was from Highway P to the Licking city limits.
