Persons with visual impairments will receive access to new computer services thanks to a grant received by the Texas County Library system.

Funding totaling nearly $13,000 will make large computer monitors, special keyboards and mice, as well as unique software available for those with sight problems, said Audrey Barnhart, library director. The equipment will be placed at each branch – Houston, Licking, Cabool and Summersville – in the county.

The grant also includes special chairs with locking canisters and arms for those with disabilities. Library staff also will receive training on the use of the new equipment.

Barnhart said the equipment will open new opportunities for those with eyesight problems.

“Imagine being able to communicate with your grandchildren for the first time through e-mail,” she said.

The funds come from the Missouri State Library system.
