The Texas County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted a horse pasture Oct. 28.
Dr. Steven Root gave a presentation on vaccinations and traveling with your horse. He passed out a handout, “Immunizations: Protect Your Horse Against Infectious Diseases,” published for the Bayer HealthCare LLC’s animal health division. Dr. B. C. Taylor gave a passionate presentation on “post- and pre-natal mare and foal care.” He spoke on how to prevent a lot of the common problems that can happen with pregnant mares before and after birth.
Mark Kennedy gave a presentation, “Healthy Pastures for Healthy Horses,” emphasizing the importance of proper forages suited for the horse and rotational grazing system.
Twenty-three landowners from Texas and Wright counties were in attendance, along with Lesly Holt, Missouri Department of Conservation private lands specialist; Adam Reed, Natural Resources and Conservation Service district conservationist; and Texas County Soil and Water Conservation District board members and staff.
