Two persons were injured in a wreck that slowed traffic early this morning south of Houston on U.S. 63, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Officers said a northbound truck driven by Richard L. Hayes, 45, of Houston, entered the oncoming lane, hitting a trailer-truck unit head-on owned by UPS and driven by Robert K. Boss, 48, of Pontiac.

Hayes was taken to a landing zone, which he was flown to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield with moderate injuries. A passenger, Candy L. Durst, 23, of Huggins, who had serious injuries, was transported by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.

Joining Tpr. Curtis Hubbs and Tpr. Marty Wiseman on the scene about 2 1/2 miles south of Houston were members of the Texas County Sheriff’s Department, Houston Rural Fire Department and Texas County Rescue Squad, as well as the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Troopers said both vehicles were totaled following the 4:50 a.m. accident.
