A wrongful death suit stemming from a December 2007 accident south of Houston has been transferred to Texas County Circuit Court, records show.
Two persons were killed in the accident on U.S. 63 after a Howell County Sheriff’s Department vehicle lost control on the Indian Creek Bridge and collided with a truck, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
The car was driven by Deputy Dennis Maddux and carried two prisoners, along with a law enforcement student, Laura A. Whittingham, 35, of Koshkonong.
One of the inmates, Lisa G. Oliver, 36, of Falcon, was pronounced dead at the scene. Whittingham died later that night at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
Relatives of the victims are suing Howell County, where the lawsuit was originally filed, along with the State of Missouri and Maddux.
The change of venue was ordered July 31.
