Dr. Tom Dunn, DVM, from the Houston Veterinary Hospital, taught the summer session course, anatomy and physiology, at Drury University’s campus in Cabool.

Students that participated in this class were from various academic disciplines. The course was an introduction to the basic anatomy and physiology of the human body and featured lectures and a laboratory component. Dunn has taught this class for Drury in past semesters, and students always have high praise of his extraordinary teaching abilities, the school said.

The laboratory portion of anatomy and physiology features the dissection of a cat. Working in small groups, students learn about the various major systems of the body, such as the circulatory and reproductive systems, and they gain invaluable hands-on experience. For many, the lab is a part of the class that is not eagerly anticipated, but Dunn is able to quell any uneasiness and make the feline dissection a positive educational experience, the school said.

Each semester, Drury University in Cabool offers several biology classes. This fall the following courses are being offered: Principles of Human Nutrition, Medical Terminology, Human Sexuality, Biogeography, Biology Concepts and Plant Form and Function. Registration is open for the fall semester, which begins on Tuesday, Sept. 2. For more information call 417-962-5314 or e-mail chicks@drury.edu.
