A new scholarship is available for graduating seniors in Texas County, organizers announced this week.

The Helping Hands Crisis Center Scholarship will aid those seeking post high school education. The recipient must be willing to continue their education, demonstrate ability to succeed academically and be good citizens. The primary wage earner in the family must earn $25,000 or less.

Organizers said the aim is to aid those who have a demonstrated commitment to furthering their education and have an ability to succeed in their studies.

The funds for the scholarship come from the organization, which sold property east of Houston. The interest accrued will be used to present a $500 scholarship to a boy and girl in each of the five school districts in Texas County.

Applications are available at the guidance counselor’s office at school districts at Cabool, Houston, Licking, Plato and Summersville. Overseeing the scholarship program are Brent Sturgeon, John Beeler, Sally Smith and Mary Stone.
