A Licking man faces multiple charges after allegedly struggling with an officer and swallowing a controlled substance during a recent traffic stop.

Allen R. Johnson, 47, swallowed the substance while a Licking police officer attempted to take it from him. He was stopped March 16 after the department received a phone call stating a potentially intoxicated driver was headed north on U.S. 63 toward the town.

Johnson is charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.

After being transported for medical attention, he was taken to the Texas County Jail and later released

Six days earlier, Licking police made two drug arrests after spotting a wanted person in the passenger seat of a vehicle. The stop led to the discovery of marijuana, methamphetamine and related drug paraphernalia.

Bobbie M. Crawford, 26, of Raymondville was arrested on a misdemeanor City of Licking warrant and also faces charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The driver, 29-year-old Brent A. Lambert of Success, faces driving while suspended, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

Crawford posted bond the following day. Lambert was released.
