Centerline rumble strips will be installed this week along U.S. 63 in three separate locations. The work, part of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s contract with Penhall Company of Rogers, Minn., will take place in these areas:

• Just north of Cabool to Simmons.

• The bridge area just south of Houston.

• From Houston north to Highway E.

The work will be performed as a moving operation, MoDOT said. Striping crews will apply a new stripe within the next few weeks.

According to MoDOT Resident Engineer Phill Knott, rumble strips have proven very effective in alerting motorists when they are about to leave the travel lane.

“By drawing their attention to it right away, they are afforded the opportunity to correct before it is too late,” he said.
