Houston police are investigating the theft of checks and their use at several area businesses.

The checks belonged to Elwin O. Altman, 312 S. Grand Ave. Authorities are seeking charges against Licking and Houston women after they were forged at several area businesses.

Checks totaling $890 have been discovered. The investigation is continuing.

In other matters, police:

-Investigated an accident Feb. 8 that police said occurred when a vehicle driven by Dustin E. Blackburn, 16, of 16702 Highway B, struck a car in the rear driven by Amanda L. Fletcher, 25, of Huggins. Police said Blackburn told them his foot slipped off the brake pedal, causing his vehicle to strike the other one in front of Houston High School.

-Were called to a disturbance Feb. 13 on South Sam Houston Blvd. No charges were immediately filed, but the case is being sent to the county prosecutor’s office was review.

-Arrested Richard S. Mann Jr., 22, of Houston, was arrested Feb. 14 on a warrant charging him with trespassing. Bond was set at $1,396.
