The Cabool Police Department recently put a drug dog into service.

Trained in narcotics detection, Cody is a two-year-old German shepherd acquired from the LaFollette K-9 Training Center in Strafford. His handler is officer Josh Green.

CPD Chief Jerald Sigman said the cost to obtain Cody and have him trained along with Green was $4,500.

Sigman said donations already received to benefit the K-9 unit included $1,600 cash, a kennel and a transport crate.

Cabool is the fourth law enforcement agency in Texas County to begin a K-9 unit program, joining the Houston and Licking police departments and the Texas County Sheriff’s Department. All four dogs and their handlers will gather on a monthly basis to train together.
