Voters traveled to the polls Tuesday.

Texas County voters will decide a county prosecutor’s race and several constitutional issues at polling precincts today.

A light turnout is forecast across the state.

At 2 p.m., 714 ballots had been cast at the Houston polling precinct. Election judges said the turnout was somewhat heavier than what had been expected.

There is only a single race on the ballot. The Republican nomination for county prosecutor will be decided. Texas County Prosecutor Mike Anderson is challenged by Parke Stevens Jr. The victor will win a four-year term.

Voters in Burdine Township will decide a tax issue. The board is seeking a nearly 19 cent per $100 of assessed valuation increase for road and bridge needs. If approved, the total levy would be 50 cents.

Five constitutional amendments will appear on the ballot: No. 1 deals with farming, No. 5 allows the state to uphold the right to keep and bear arms, No. 7 would raise the state’s sales tax rate by three-quarters of a cent for transportation needs, No. 8 creates a lottery ticket with profits earmarked for veterans and No. 9 secures electronic communications and data from unreasonable search and seizures.

Polls open at 6 and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

A printed sample ballot appears in the July 31 newspaper.
