Two local organizations are making final preparations to participate in the first-ever “Give Ozarks,” a 24-hour online day of giving planned for May 5.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks is supporting its partner non-profit agencies participating — Texas County Memorial Hospital and Houston Education Foundation.
Both will work to raise online donations from midnight to midnight at giveozarks.org for needs that will improve education and opportunities for students of Houston and Texas County. Both are eligible for several prizes based on their success raising funds and also the overall number of supporters who make online donations on May 5.
The Give Ozarks Day activities kick off at noon when TCMH and Houston Education Foundation host the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce meeting and luncheon at TCMH. An event, “Ozarks Gives Rally,” in conjunction with the Houston Farmers Market is 2 p.m. at Lone Star Plaza in downtown Houston. Donation stations, refreshments and entertainment — provided by Houston School District students — are planned.
Making a secure donation is easy: May 5 donors can log onto giveozarks.org and search for these local nonprofits to complete a basic credit card donation that is tax deductible.
May 5 is Give Local America Day when community foundations across the country will hold similar online fundraising events to boost resources, encourage new donors and raise awareness of philanthropy. Online giving days, a growing movement in the philanthropy field, have raised millions of dollars for nonprofit organizations over the last six years.
The Houston Education Foundation and Texas County Memorial Hospital are affiliates of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, a regional public charitable foundation founded in 1973. It includes 45 affiliate foundations and nearly 600 nonprofit partners and schools.
Local sponsors and partners for Houston Education Foundation for the May 5 event in Houston include Progressive Ozark Bank, The Bank of Houston, Landmark Bank, Walmart Foundation, Intercounty Electric Cooperative and the Durham Co.
