• Three Texas County school districts were named to the U.S. News & World Report 2017 Best High Schools List.

Cabool, Plato and Summersville were among 11 area high schools on the list. All received “Bronze” status. Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college, according to U.S. News. Statewide, 517 high schools received Gold, Silver or Bronze rankings. Nationally, only 6,000 out of 22,000 public schools were ranked.

• Around town: Hiett Gymnasium’s parking lot has a new seal coat and striping on the Houston School District campus… New sidewalk construction is slated to start soon where those cones are situated along South Sam Houston Blvd. near West Highway 17 in Houston…

• Hill Top Farm, a vendor at the Lone Star Farmers Market in Houston, is offering a fall share in the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, which delivers fresh produce for 10 weeks.

CSA allows individuals and families to have direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally by farmers. When persons purchase a “share” of vegetables, it is grown by a local farmer.

Signup and package delivery is available from 8 a.m. until noon at the Lone Star Farmers Market at First and Pine streets in Houston. The cost is $215 a share, which can be paid at once or by installment. The first box is Sept. 21, and the last on Nov. 23.
