TEXAS COUNTY GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Texas County Genealogical and Historical Society met Friday, Sept. 8, at St Mark’s Catholic Church in Houston.

Fifteen members and guests heard Bob Hines speak on “What Happened to the Good Old Days.” He was born and raised in Hutton Valley, a few miles from Willow Springs.

Hines is the author of 12 books, and one is about old times and Ozark people. He worked his way through the University of Missouri. He enjoyed telling stories about the ghost lights and the overflowing barrel at Simmons. Hines told of his great-great-grandmother being captured by Indians but was able to get back to her people.

The next meeting is Oct. 13.
