As of early May 1, 651 turkeys have been harvested in Texas County as part of the spring firearms season.

Texas County was listed as No. 11 in the state in the spring firearms turkey season underway, figures from the Missouri Department of Conservation show.

Texas County hunters had killed 222 turkeys going into Friday, the fifth day of the spring firearms season, according to figures from the Missouri Department of Conservation.

In the county, 179 adult gobblers, 40 juvenile gobblers and three bearded hens were harvested.

Leading the state were: Franklin (341), Callaway (318) and St. Genevieve (274).

The season ends May 5.
