A Houston woman received a troubling call Monday that is pegged to a scam.
Betty Dunn, a retiree, said she picked up the telephone to find a caller claiming to be a grandson in trouble who needed money. The caller said there had been a bad wreck, that he was jailed and needed $2,400.
Dunn reached another relative, who reported her grandson was fine.
Authorities say those receiving suspicious telephone calls should notify them before any money is transferred.
