Intercounty Electric General Manager Dwayne Cartwright.

The general manager of Licking-based Intercounty Electric will leave Sept. 28 to accept the same position with a large South Carolina cooperative.

Dwayne Cartwright, who has held the top post since September 2005, will become general manager of Berkeley Electric Cooperative, which serves more than 80,000 accounts in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties with more than 5,000 miles of line. It is the largest electric cooperative in the South Carolina, and one of the top 25 in the nation.

Cartwright submitted his resignation Monday to the Intercounty board of directors. He has been an Intercounty employee since April 1996. He also served as manager of member services.

Cartwright said his decision to leave was a difficult one, but feels he is leaving the co-op in capable hands of staff and directors. He said he was taking the job to advance his career in the electric distribution field.
