The Texas County Fair and its sister attraction, the 99th annual Old Settlers Reunion, kicks off a four-night run Wednesday at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on North U.S. 63.
The event is a massive undertaking by the chamber, which sponsors it. Revenue from the summertime event provides a good chunk of the organization’s operating funds.
The Texas County Fair Board also sponsors various livestock shows as part of the event and a junior livestock sale on Saturday.
Here is the schedule:
Wednesday, July 15 – Family Gospel Night.
Thursday, July 16 -Big Country 99 Idol Contest.
Friday, July 17 – Demolition derby qualifying heats and idol contest finals.
Saturday, July 18 – Demolition derby finals.
This year’s carnival midway is supplied by SonShine Amusements.
Entry to the fair is free. There is a fee to attend either night of the demolition derby: $10 for adults; $5 for kids 5-12. Those under 4 are free.
Musical entertainment also is planned for the four nights.
The fair board also will sponsor several livestock shows:
-Goats and sheep judged, 5 p.m. Thursday, July 16
-Swine followed by beef shows, 9 a.m. Friday, July 17.
-Rabbits followed by poultry shows, 10 a.m. Friday, July 17.
-Dairy cattle judged, 9 a.m. Saturday, July 18.
The annual Junior Livestock Sale is 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18.
